Tee Emm, Virtual unlimited plans are a good start but there's always the chance that something you do will result in an unexpected charge. With a true unlimited plan it is one less worry.

Saleem, to your point, the GSM Association urged govt to reduce the taxes on communication. I wrote a series of posts about the study which GSMA did. It shows that govt can still get a large revenue if it lets go of some taxes.

Very soon we will find flat rates with fixed monthly charges in Pakistan telecoms also. Price war will again start after China Mobile will start its business properly in Pakistan. Right now PAKTEL is just passing time because restructuring is going on in it.

Flat charges of Rs 10,000 is much much higher for Pakistani market. I dont think it will more than Rs 2000 or Rs 2500. Because still you can get with Rs 1500.... 1500 minutes free per month 0.40 Rs after using given limit.

Main problem for Pakistani mobile market is huge taxes on mobile users. They have to Pay 10% withholding tax ( which was levied by CBR that Mobile is luxury in mid 1990's and its still carrying on.) and 15% Sale Tax. Means in total you have to pay more than 25% as Tax on your usage. Government is enjoying a lot these taxes for arranging Basant Functions, Dances and traveling abroad.

LNO (Late Night Option) with a flat fee was introduced by Ufone in recent past. Good to see pricing innovations coming from industry leaders like Ufone etc. However, we should keep our fingers crossed for the "new Paktel", i.e., China Mobile.

We already have 'virtual unlimited' wireless plans where the unit of measure is hours, not minutes. Rs 5 per hour (each call) is the normal rates (on-net) for various top cellular companies like Telenor and Mobilink in Pakistan currently.

This trend started off on pre-paid plans but has now started being made available on the postpail plans too.
