Flare Magazine: Old Media Copying Stories From New Media
Flare Magazine, Islamabad based technology magazine, is known to copy and paste articles from the cyberspace. Now it has also started stealing content and headlines from blogs such as this one and others. If you look at the stories in Flare you will find that most (if not all) of them do not cite any references. Well, there are no authors as well. This is not limited to Flare, other news publishers seem to be doing the same. This shows the sad state of affairs for old media in Pakistan. The quality of reporting has been steadily going down but it has reached a new low with the stealing of content. If left unchekced, this will lead the next generation to think that it is ok to plagiarize and sell.
I am surprised that the telecommunication companies who place their ads in Flare Magazine are either unaware or oblivious of this parctice of old media copying stories from new media. I hope that they have some standards for the publications where their name appears!

The whole industry knows the reputation of Mr. Zaidi and his companions who are replacing the old team of technical logistics gradually.
Mr.Zaidi must be asked by the higher management about justification of demanding identity cards of the whole family while the same team is doing its best possible by saving more and more in rent reduction project, employees should not be treated guilty for having cell site on their own land after huge saving by them for the company, for which employees are being blackmailed and are called to deal with director to settle the issue.
Mr. Zaidi is just trying to show his efficiency by taking these non-professional steps and wants to show the loyalty to the higher management unlike his nature. The whole team is fed- up from his rude behavior and attitude.

Hello Babar, i aprpricaite your nic efforts to first write some thing nice and good and than highlighting the robbery…since i know flare people closely and i am sure that they should had bring this to your knowledge before publishing it. i don’t want to be harsh with friends too but feeling embrassed that some one known to me did this… rest i am sure this blog would be eye opener for not only flare but also to other people , who are bringing their credibility to poor low level..regards, Rizwan.
Truly pathetic. But not at all surprising. The easy way out is the only way out these days it seems. The abnormal of the past has become the norm of the present.
Flare magazine should not be taken to court but a media campaign using personal connections and networks should be launched against them. The objective of this campaign would be to ridicule them to such an extent that by the end of it they will be no more then a joke in the media industry.

They don’t have courage at all. The author of this Flare and one other Magazine ( I forget name but it covers showbiz) lacks real education in Print media. He has hired few designers and few marketing guys. If you have ever observed, their most of articles seems paid by the company of which they discusses. They writes against those, who not pays them. Few months back they printed stupid comments against one telecom company.
Anyway they are cheap. I personally saw after visiting them that their few guys were busy in browsing Blogs and copy pasting and getting pictures and then adding in their soft magazine for printing. They are getting exposed day by day. I hope one day people will go and burn their office because Courts can’t give justice to people like Babar Bhatti in present circumstances.

can any one tell me which media group flare magazine belongs to. i think the readers of flare should actually wake up.rather than purchase the stupid magazine n pay all that money simply come and read the blogs that flare people so “regularly visit”
They not only copy from blogs but from anywhere they can … I remember exposing their palgaristic approach in relationship to an internal group discussion on Marketing-360 e-group – Pakistan’s biggest Marketing discussion forum, last year where they also published the email IDs of all the participants with their names.
Also on the other side, we the management of Marketing-360 blocks their email ID from posting on the group, when they put a (supposingly fake) internal presentation of a telecom company in the name of investigative journalism.
What else one can expect from the journalists of the so called “Biggest” media network of the country.
Copyrights encourage individuals to innovate, the positive side behind this law. While we use it in negative sense all the time. The discussions and opinions add value to the society when you share them at other places, but the author needs to be aware as to in what conditions his work is being portrayed, whether they fit and keep the originality alive.
I guess its not too much to ask from Flare to get the receipt from the authors. Everyone does that in order to publish already published work, it’s not at them only as an unusual case.
Baber have you contacted the flare so far? If yes what was their response ? They should now pay you and should write an apology letter.
Has any contacted the editor at Flare?
I believe if it is brought to his attention, if letter are written to the Press club, something can be done about this.
This is the responsibility of all bloggers to ensure this doesn’t happen.
Babar, can you compile a list of artciles with proof of web publication (dates and url) and Flare’s infringment. I think I might know someone who can take it up with the press club. but before that, lets get in touch with the editor.

I run a marketing discussion group called Marketing-360 and they copied discussion threads in at least two editions, and claimed it to be a discussion on “our forum”.
To the extent that they even printed the email addresses of the persons that shared their views.
Not to also mention teh fact that they persistently spam people (inlcuding myself) to promote their magazine. Everytime I tell them not to send me messages, they don’t seem to understand.
Babar, this is totally unacceptable. If they think that the content on your blog is worth using (which I am not surprised about at all), it would be simple enough to contact you and ask your permission to use it, give you credit and even pay you since they are making money from all this advertising.
Their advertisers should actually pressurise them to do give credit to the writers whose content they use and to seek their permission instead of simply plagiarising the material.
Its very sad to see where journalism is heading too. Recently I had completed my first ever survey of broadband usage and analysis in Pakistan which was also published in a leading newspaper without citing any references. Which has lead me to not publish anything of such important material before the same is published in a research paper.
I hope we can bring some awareness to this sleeping nation.

Sir, you are welcome. My job was to inform you that how this magazine is earning lot by just copy paste and violating international standards. At least this Flare should first access you and get permission from your side and then print by mentioning your name and with thanks. This is 100% fraud and illegal.
