Mobilink Subscriber Growth Declines, Zong and Telenor Growing Rapidly

By Babar Bhatti | June 20, 2008 | No Comments

The mobile subscriber numbers for last few months tell an interesting story. Zong and Telenor have been growing at a brisk pace, at the expense of Mobilink and Ufone. Take a look at the April to May changes. Mobilink’s share of market is down to 37%. There are many reasons to which we can attribute this trend: decline in customer satisfaction, aggressive competition and market saturation. Perhaps this is one reason why Mobilink is trying to diversify through link dot net.

    hi buddies,

i could not found the source of the chart attached. :)

well, I have a breaking news for you guys, as per my observations (infat believe) mobilink is going to launch some new value added services soon which will be historic and trend setter, and if the attached information is true, the stats will be entirely opposite and will be much more than the mentioned about others.

Good hopes for a better competion in market.

I guess Mobilink VAS side change is pretty clear by kind of services they have been rolling out lately. Services like TCS Delivery, Pakistan Railways venture and similar add value to consumer’s regular routine and this is the area which needs the most attention.

    Hi Babar,

I noticed that you mentioned LinkdotNet being under the umbrella of Mobilink. Although I’m not 100% sure, I believe LinkdotNet directly comes under Orascom, and does not have anything to do with Mobilink. Could you confirm? However, they are currently in trial phases of their Mobilink Broadband offer, which is in direct competition to Wateen’s WiMax offer. Cheers.

    The current market positions are:

    1. Mobilink
    2. Telenor
    3. Ufone
    4. Warid
    5. Zong

A lot depends on how sustainable your offer is, which market segment is your target, how much would you benefit from this offer.

and i hope you all will agree that “first in market will always remain first in consumers mind”.

Seems like Mobilink’s Bubble is finally shrinking and if they don’t do anything about it, they will be facing a harder time than PAKTEL, INSTAFONE.

It’s like this: Just like when there is a new girl or a guy in your office/gym/social group and you loose interest over your wife or husband or girlfriend or boyfriend. The cellular industry is going through the same frame. Once you realize that it’s only your partner that takes your crap, you come back to them. I cannot be more clear on the market situation!

    Awais,

I took all the numbers from PTA site. Email me if you need the excel version of the data.

A word of caution though: PTA has pulled off some of these numbers from its site. Perhaps there were doubts about the actual number of SIMs being reported …
