Picture Of The Month: Solar Tent For Charging Phones

From this post at Engadget. A great way to get attention, raise brand awareness and score some green points. I’d be interested to know more about its performance and cost effectiveness. Reminds me of a picture from a newspaper in Pakistan which shows people using a generator to charge their phones.
At the Glastonbury festival, Orange will erect a seven-meter high recharge Pod tent for charging handsets. The tent will boast 500-watt solar panels and a 500-watt wind turbine in order to generate electricity for the lifeless phones, and Orange is hoping to juice up 100 devices per hour.

hi Buddies,
I would like to brought your intension towards the core of these inventions, the non renewable resources of enery on Earth are limited and their reserves are decreasingly e.g. oil, coal, etc it is expected that if the industry growth will remain same these resources on earth will vanish in next 300 years, :) ,
So by using these non renewable enery sources we are not only increasing the global warming, but also putting human future in danger.
What we need is to identify renewable sources of energy , like solar energy, wind energy, tidal energy, atomic energy (reservations on enviornmental security), Hydal energy etc.
i can present only visible phnomenon to you how important is this issue, that our country weathers are changing dramatically. this is result of human damage to enviorment.
Well, no doubt west is responsible of all this global warming and it is claming china, india , etc are responsible for global warming.

Moral : Live simple lives, reduce industry, use renewable sources of energy and sustainable approach to energy resouces.
hmm…does any one know if mobile phone manufacturers are working on phones that run on solar energy? like we used to have calculators in college…
Cant say about cost-effective part but it already is in market. The photo above was taken by me and it was on sale there and the shop-keeper was charging his Nokia 3310 with that panel :) Its really good when you are traveling and camping in remote areas.
A cost-effective solar/wind energy solution for phones (and other light energy needs) will be a killer invention.
Handy Solar Panel for Charging Mobiles
And reminds me of a small solar panel to charge mobile phones that I saw in Rawalpindi.
