PTCL Union Strike Over Pay Scale
It was only a matter of time. The situation was on slow boil for a while. There are some serious issues such as pay scales and a history of mistrust. This is yet another test for the Middle Eastern management. I find it a bit strange that they are not using their website effectively – but then they had difficulties keeping it up. According to APP:
Commenting on the Unified Pay Scale (UPS), the PTCL spokesman explained that this package is for the benefit of workers and those opposing it are misleading the entire work force without being fully aware of its salient features and benefits.
The PTCL employees are at the gaining end and shall receive a substantial raise in their salaries and pension on the other hand all of their service rights remain protected as according to PTCL Service Rules of 1996 and the Telecom Act 1996, said the spokesman.
The management, he said, held two meetings with the union on the UPS and the union were supposed to give their feedback on the salary issue but they simply did not come back for further talks. The Union, he said, was not in a mood to sit down and it appears that the strike was preplanned irrespective of UPS clarification announcement.

TelecomPk.Net is a leading source of information and analysis about Pakistan Telecom industry.
For De-regulation of Telecom Sector and evolution of Teleom industry in Pakistan PTCL employees have given Sacrifice much much more than they could. No doubt In pakistan a great foreign investment has come in Telecom Sector and Govt has earned, and is being earning a great amount of revenue from telecom sector but in reward nothing have been given to PTCL employee who have sacrificed for this cause. No rise in their saleries since long, no additional benifits, only seperation from their Jobs through VSS, unsecurity, The new irrational Unified Pay Scales which has some errors e.i only few employees increases more than 60% but the many of the senior employees only 15% increase, despite the employees were promissed more increase in their salleries. Due to the recent high inflation an average increase of Rs. 1000 to 3000 is not fare specially when they are waiting an increase since long (last 04 years)
salam sir..plz leave the strike coz we are very opset ore bisnus is going to loss
I request the PTCL Authorities plz obey the order the our Hono: Prime Minister in which he says that all contract employees will be confirm soon. The Authorities also requested to give new government pay scale to their employees instead of Unified Pay Scale. The Unified Pay Scale has some errors e.i some employees increases more than 60% but the senior employees only 15% its not fare. If the authorities want to lauch UPS than he must increases as seniorty cum education basis.
Privatization is always tricky. It always depends on the government and regulators to ensure a fair deal for everyone. I am against large govt organizations as they are incompetent. However the govt has to ensure that the privatized version delivers value to the public and employees and does not become just a money making machine.
PTCL was at least feeding tens of thousands of families and their children were studying and living fine. What Pakistan government got after privatization of highly profitable company… “ROTI, KAPRA AUR MAKKAN”???? Shame on these leeches like Musharraf and Shaoukat Aziz.
If Government can’t give to people then atleast not snatch a piece of loaf from their mouths. Why they sells profitable organizations and keeping highly lost organisations with their chests like Railway and PIA. They should first sell failed companies and then think about others.
an average PTCL employee (lowest in order) hardly does s***… linemans etc … for a job of 1 there are 3 ppl /// they should get a taste of the private sector, where they drain their employees to the very last drop…
