Affordable Wireless Broadband: EVDO Soft Launch By WorldCall
WorldCall has started EVDO service from Karachi. The solution uses a USB modem (or a wireless router - if thats what you prefer) and enables wireless broadband services for laptops. This is being offered at very competitive rates by WordCall. Thanks to Faraz at WorldCall for sharing the information at Telecom Grid. Quoting the thread:
There’s no cap on downloads. Below is the tariff - for shared connections:
256 Kbps 1200/-
512 Kbps 1800/-
1 Mbps 2500/-Device is ADU-510A, cost Rs. 4500.
Service is currently available in Karachi with plans of expanding it to Lahore soon.

They need to drop down the cost of the devices.. people love free modems and it is true for the case of wireless aswell.
Surprised they’re launching 3G services! Why is worldcall investing heavily into these services when it doesnt even have mobile rights or is it trying to stretch its WLL license?
Most telco’s are waiting for LTE to come out as it’s expected its devices will be significantly cheaper. So all in all, I am surprised why worldcall is trying to take a lead in this and how it benefits its strategic goals
Is this affordable??? Simple broadband with so much rates?
It is better to buy WiMAX service broadband instead of this wireless broadband. Its USB stick is costing Rs4,500… It is so cheap to buy instead of Equipment for WiMAX for Rs8,000 i.e. also on installments now a days.
3G—– I don’t think that in near future any telecom company will proceed with it. it’s equipment is expansive and need full infrastructure. In addition to this… The spectrum allocated for 3G comes in High License Fee. So companies who are opting WiMAX instead of 3G is doing wise decision because less equipment is required, License fee for WiMAX spectrum is negligible and speed is also good. 3G can give maximum 7.2MB/sec speed…where as WiMAX can reach upto 27MB/sec. But right now in Pakistan, PTCl is creating problem for WiMAX companies. lets pray for better future and broadband services on wireless networks. WiMAX installed in Pakistan is also Mobile WiMAX. Only we need to wait for WiMAX enabled Notebooks and Mobiles. Nokia is going to launch first WiMAX enabled mobile for USA users soon.
nice to c this technology arriving in Pakistan but it is bsically targeted for a niche/business market coz in Pakistan security of equipment on the go wud be in question so ppl at home will better settle for the wi-max option
1. Please call brain tell at 210 0786 and also log in a claim in their web site and also demand a credit for the line rent they will be charging you, for the period of outage.
2. Please call the snakes in PTA who do not allow ip telephony. one of them is Mr Sajjad Latif Awan and give thme some BS. they do not understand how mucch the communication opens new oppurtunities for Pakistan

as-salam-u-alaikum,
I’m using WorldCall eVDO 256K package. It works very well and thus I’m not frustrated while using it anytime.
I admit that the cost is bit more than it should be, however, we should hope that they would reduce their prices in near future since we have competition in the market.
I personally liked their service since it has freedom of wiring and fix location. I have tested connection with simple surfing, download, upload, online gaming, and all other in-use technologies and it worked very well until now.
I’m upgrading from 256K to 1Mbps today. Overall, buying a USB cost 4500 is not too much if we are getting Unlimited Internet Access @ Wireless Connectivity in our pocket.

EVDO device price is not the main problem. Higher monthly package prices are the real problem. They should be offering 256Kbps for 700-800. I understand its wireless but still the cost if very high. They have to lower the tarrif if they want to capture general public.
well i am testing the evdo service from world call these days for furutre procurement. The service looks fine but my concern is of security.
Data over wireless connection is not secured. this is not wireless lan. this is something data over CDMA2000 network. the frequesncy ranges over which it works is different. but one always should be careful.
once i complete my security testing, i will share it with all of you.

@Adnan
“Data over wireless connection is not secured” - jumping to conclusions, are we? Not all wireless protocols are insecure. CDMA2000 is pretty good at that.
“this is not wireless lan” - no, it isn’t. CDMA2000 is more secure than wifi. AES encryption is part of the spec.
Search for “evdo security” in your favorite search engine, and also look up AES on wikipedia.
I used EVDO by WOrldcall. it amazing technology.
[...] month Worldcall started its EVDO service in Karachi. Heard that it’ll be coming to Lahore soon. I think ppl shouldn’t worry about how much WorldCALL is investing in telecom rather they should say thnx to World Call that they are serving our country thru various telecom services, and this 1 EvDo in Karachi is an excellent 1 a handy mobile device, i used it’s 256kbps and it worked gr8 downloading higher than 60-70kb is excellent. Also they are offering WiFi Router with a 4 LAN, and 1 WAN and 1 WiFi connections and we can get upto 233 Terminals connected thru it. Well I would say Best of Luck to World Call for future technologies.
I am currently using this world call evdo services with a 256kb connection, well i must say a very very good service, though on the pricing side its high, but its really good as compared to Wateen , Mobilink WiMax and other Broadband service providers.
Plus point is mobility and i have tested it on different locations it works perfectly fine. I must say thanks to Mr. Faraz of WorldCall for introducing it to me. Upload, downloads, surfing is koool really……
With the technology advancements i think this is the best thing in town these days.
Hi All,
EVDO is a standard in basic. My laptop has got EVDO and HSDPA modules, I just don’t need any USB device.
Would WorldCall configure my laptop’s module to receive their service if they are rendering a standard? Or its just another marketing joke like forget about the standard and buy the cheap device to avail the services…
I am off it if it is so…
Keep Cool
Max
The servicer is attractive but very costly.Needs to be cut down to 500-600 when initial cost is that much high.
its good but its only working in karachi…
i think they should provide services outside karachi city..or in entire sindh
are they offering the 30% discount for students (that is awarded by HEC) on each pakage, as it is offered by PTCL.
i bought mine today but wen it comes to verifying user name and password it doesnt connect and says ‘fail to error string’ help?
I think this EVDO is a cool addition in Pakistan Communication sector but to make it accessible for masses there need to be a good price drop.
Rs. 4500 for a USB modem seems too much, I have seen same type of modems selling for a $1 to $5 USD in China in bulk purchase depending on the Quality.
As for the package rates then I think bot Fiber Optic and Wifi (including EVDO) need to be offered on more realistic price tag that is in the reach of those people who arent getting big salaries but ordinary people with ordinary purchasing power.
DSL and Internet companies can make massive profits if they have more clients and sensible rates.
I have Worldcall’s EVDO 256kpbs, and its working fine. I would request the concerned department to slash down their monthly charges.

can any one tell me the diffrence between wimax & wifi sorry i know this topic shouldnt be disussed here but i had this question for avery long tiume
well i tink the prices are ok….
installation fee is 4500 bcoz tht wireless device is
itself expansive…….
n u guyz r sayin tht it should offer 256 kbps at 600 to 800!!!
is there any other internet service offering tht cheap ratessss!!!!!
PLZ REPLY!!!
Assalam o Alaikum,
I’ve read all the comments on this page and finally i would like to say that WORDCALL has to make discount for students….
For the people who say that these price are too high, they plz hold down now a days because prices will be low (INSHALLAH) when other telecom corporation introduce this type of service…….
Thanks,

I agree with those who says the device is expensive. I think worldcall should reduce the cost of device so that more people can afford this device. I also want to buy this device but still waiting for other compaines to launch the same service so that the price gets reduced. Come on worldcall … be first to provide this service at the lowest cost which can not be matched by others.
Can anyone tell me plz what is the downloading speed on 256 EVDO device?
AOA,
I just got to know that World call has started this fascinating service of Wireless internet on the move…well it looks exciting as far as the term ” wireless internet on the move ” is concerned, but the question is always of PRICE and affordable mobility….
How many of us would use internet on the move?? If we just want mobility of the kind that we should be able to use internet at different places then we also have option of WIMAX i.e. Carry WIMAX router with you… this service is available at lower costs…And if we just wish to have wireless internet access at any particular location like in homes or offices then we better opt For the more cheaper DSL connection and use a WiFi Router to extend internet access wirelessly… I would still sugest to wait foe the price to get lowered..both Device and monthly charges…
The effort of World call is anyways appreciable but much is expected of it to lower the cost of service. I would love to have wireless internet access on the move but at the same time would wish for the same at affordable cost… I also agree with the fact that People who can afford to have handheld devices like EVDO / 3G enabled expensive notebooks or mobile phone etc, can also afford to get this service which is available at approx 1200/ month, but I think you would appreciate the fact that “the cost of mobility is not justified”, because very less number of users would use internet on the move rite now and the rest still just wants to have broadband internet access at affordable rates rather than wishing for internet on the move…One should also care for the less privileged people who also want to have equal opportunity to take part in the overall educational development of the country…..
No offence intended…bt thats what i think of it…
In the end i would say we / the end users will soon get this broadband internet on the move on a much cheaper rates when PTCL will launch their EVDO service..because they always come up with DHAMAKA offeres…like giving the DEVICE free of cost as they did in their DSL service launch…the same is expected incase if EVDO service aswell…best of luck..
In my point of view, if price of the device is less than 2000Rs, I’d to choose the service at once.

Hi. todya my concered to tell the reader about the “wateen” as we call it “yateem” i bought it and used it, i did lot of trouble with me thought sales person were good to me, they were come to me to resolve the issue but the service was not be given accordence the commitment. and there were no differance between 1MB and 512 speed except money chargies. i do not know how they come to being. yet their shops are visible as i see there farchies are working. but when i retrun them device they did not retrun my money which they said will be returned. but as i have not used the evdo yet, but i have been user of novtal that is PCMCI card, i bought from the GOCDMA office. when i bought it there was no facilty to use it nation wide but now they have that facility but unfortunatly the my new Laptop dose not support that card i bought i was thinking that why kind of USB device is not come up to fix almost every type of computer. so coustomer can use it easily. when i saw the evdo i have decide to tri it as well because i belive that buy is no problam but service chargies are bit higher, but one keep it in mind we use ten computer at time by using that evdo. and then unlimited 1mb in 2500 is not big deal. and as i found gocdma 256kb service not that worst as i felt using that yateem. so i go to have evdo USB which comes in five thousand. it is great device. but i would like to say that the price for individual should be cut down to use it easily that will bost up their sale, but be fear full when the number of coustomer will grow then the speed will low. becasue it is shared service. but i think by the time some thing new will be arrived. so get what is avilable on the spot. so we go to have it on first of next month. thanks to read all this

Dear Qasim, let me know what is your problam,
Hi
Must appreciate worldcall on the launching this amazing technology, still its price is slightly on the higher side but i am sure its cost will decrease with the pessage of time as competition increases.Apart from all this can anyone tell me that when they are going to launch this technology in Lahore?
waitin…..
thnx in advance
Salaam,
I would like to take a minute and let all of you know this that you guys are nothing but complainers and whiners. People like you stop the modernization of the small countries like Pakistan. If worldcall doesnt bring this service no one has. So you should shut up and enjoy it. If you cannot afford you shouldnt complain either. You complain because you cannot afford. Its like If you cannot afford to drive Mercedes will you complain also ?. So please chill and let them do what they have to do. I live in US and believe me when i come to Pakistan and see that companies like World Call are trying to bring these thing in Pakistan it make me proud because its for a better future in Pakistan.
Thanks and dont forget, Stop Complaining.
how far this thing could work in terms of coverage?….can we take it to say port qasim?
its too much costly
must be any package for students
i m using wireless net costing 600 per month just using a wireless antina
downloading speed 60 kb to 100 kb so i think thats best speed
2400 RS is too much
i this charges ptcl can be the best
this service i think is just for laptops
in my view if they decrease charges as below
256kb 600 RS
512kb 1000 Rs
1024kb 1800 RS
then its seems to be perfect
otherwise too much costly
becoz competetion is going to tuf
wateen also launching devices
and now ptcl also launch a free net package
zong also in the progress with cheap prices
so this services can be successfull if they decrease rates and launch
more packages
if they dont decrease charges then free net ours introduce
ok best of luck too all
i hope houners of WORLD CALL will pay attention on this matter
and try to solve this matter
Salams everyone,
I have been using popular LAN connectivity for internet uses, nowadays it just got worsen and I planned to get something which could help me even when the powers r off n i m running on UPS.
It seems uptil now that WorldCall’s EVDO is the best option for internet surfing, I am planning to purchase the WiFi router with 256kb link which will enable my all computers at home to access the internet.
I would suggest the new users who r planning to get something for their internet to visit this topic http://www.wiredpakistan.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=2241 as it describes very nicely about the differences between the services n troubles if arrives while using EVDO.
Hope that my experience will be good enough to be shared happily with you all.

Mujtaba Panjwani
It is indeed the most wanted product and the requirement of the time. But I think it is expensive, at least for the people of Pakistan. I am sure that this product will bring upon a healthy competition in market. It must be extended to the other cities promptly.
I think the price of Kbps 512 should be Rs.1000 because this price is affordable for many people who are already using broadband.
This valuable product has not been advertized as much as it should be with all its features. Then the huge demand of it will help company to reduce prices.
I live in Kohat (NWFP). 2day watching commercial on TV I am on this site but found nothing about my city. Ca they offering their service in Kohat? But still the cost is very very high. Normal earning persons can’t afford such services. I am wondering various websites for broadband service but i can’t afford the package price of Rs.1200/- per month. They should lower the price to Rs.600/- Per month.

I think WORLDCALL should launch its EV-DO service in Islamabad and Lahore before PTCL do. Islamabad is a small city. WORLDCALL can try schemes like one PTCL introduced with DSL, 1year agreement and free DSL CPE and the cost can be included in monthly package. if not WORLDCALL can introduce this offer for limited number of subscribers, say first 500 customers or so. I think People hesitate to do a large invesment with any technology which has not been used by them before but once they buy, monthly charges is not a problem for them. I think WORLDCALL should think about it.
CHEERS
ohhh thats gr8 i mean awesome service.more than awesome.but they gotta start service in islamabad rwp too. yup price is bit issue.it remains low b/w 800.

AOA - i just had my bandwidth upgraded from 256 kbps to 1 Mbps and the speed is fantasticccccccccc - over 100 kb/sec with a very fast response - 2500 per month for a 1 Mbps connection is not expensive keeping in mind the competitors and there service which are usually strucked by a large downtime with crappy service and bad customer service - unlike Wordlcall , i havent had a single disconnection since my first use about 45 days ago
Who dayz dis is expensive service or Devoce :O
i m living in malaysia en here Wireless Modem costs more than PKRS 10k
and 1Mbps rates are also bit higher…even though Malaysia is one of Advanced
country of Asia in every respect epecially IT.
I m coming back to Pakistan next month.can anybody plzz tell when Lahore is
getting dis service…?
Hi Every one,,
I agree with those who says the device is very expensive. If World call reduce the price of so more then current peoples able to Purchase & gain to benifits of your amazing technalogy becouse of almost 80% criteria of your custoomer is students so think about it.
thanks & regards
