Mobile Subscriber Growth Takes A Hit In July 2008
Crackdown on SIM registration, increase in taxes, inflation and worsening economy, political uncertainty and other factors took a big toll on the telecom sector. The July growth numbers (~1.3M) are the lowest so far in 2008. Even though the pace in growth has slowed, companies like Zong and Ufone are doing well albeit with with low ARPU which has been a consistent factor in Pakistan market.

Where do the companies stand on market share? Compared with 2007 end, Mobilink lost 4%, Zong gained 2%.

If you are interested in the actual numbers, see the data - as always reported by PTA.

TelecomPk.Net is a leading source of information and analysis about Pakistan Telecom industry.

I discussed this issue too, but as per Mudassar Jehangir its just due to political unrest in the country.
We have seen that assassination of Benazir Bhutto and even the elections didn’t hamper this growth rate, then why now?
Or is it the increased taxes? Or just we have started getting the actual stats for monthly sales????
It is due to
1.Increase in taxes
2. Mandatory requirement for SIM registration.
3. Reduced number of retail outlets as only registered outlets could sell the SIMs.
4. Natural slow down of growth.
5. Due to high inflation, the disposable income of the people has been lowered.
