PTCL Website Mistakes. Does Anyone Care?
A website tells a lot about a company’s attitude towards its customers and service. In case of PTCL it clearly shows that there is not much attention to detail when it comes to typos, grammar and clarity. Consider the following samples from this page about phone-n-net which, by the way, happens to be a good service if you can deal with the usual issues associated with dial-up.
Is telephone call will be charged?
Only one call will be charged as per PTCL rules for 131 number. Is Phone ‘n’ Net service is a dialup service?
Yes, Its a dialup service. What is the speed I will get?
The speed you will get will be 56.6kbps
My intention is not to pick on PTCL but to make a point that when a company of this scale puts something on its site, it should be carefully reviewed. But then, PTCL has never been known for caring about its customers.
While we are on this topic of content on the telecom company web sites, see this screen capture from Telenor Djuice site - see anything contradictory?

TelecomPk.Net is a leading source of information and analysis about Pakistan Telecom industry.

I may deviate from telecom, but quoted text in this post reminded me of a blog post by Dr. Awab, with a scan that read
“May Gaad give us Strent to save Pakistan - Asif Ali Zardari, President of Pakistan”
When it comes to dial-up users, I doubt they’ll be visiting the PTCL website in general because trust me, when you have dial-up, all you can think of is quickly get your work done and hope you don’t get disconnected in between. However, I defiitely agree with you when it comes to lazy grammar and laguage on these huge business websites. I mean, the least they ca do is hire a free-lancer to proof-read what ever it is that theyhave written.
But anyway. As a dial-up user (still, so sue me! :P) I use the WOL/LDN SMS4NET service where you can get internet hours by sending an SMS to 965 on a Mobilink or Warid connection. Their service is better and convenient (WOL is an internet pioneer in Pakistan after all) and I don’t have to go to their website for details! :P
So there’s a young lady on the djuice link…and next to the islamic portal thing.
Whats contradictory about it? Islam doesn’t ALLOW women? Or when we talk of Islam women shouldn’t be seen around?
I know what the argument is…but lets for a minute deconstruct it and see where our bias is coming from!
To me the lady is moderately dressed holding a phone and just standing. Whats wrong with that?
Or would she rather have a hijab as well and then it will be all okay?
And believe me I know objectionable when i see it!
Lets hear what others have to say!
As you point out the problem in ptcl site.I totally agree with you about the laziness of Ptcl. There is also a problem regarding Broadband(DSL) service.
Ptcl has launched his service(for Broadband(DSL)) in Lahore,Karachi,Islamabad and in some other cities as well. But Still not covered a part of Lahore. That is of Wahdat Colony,on Wahdat Road Lahore.I would like to share me and my colony friends experience in tis way that is:
Ptcl is providing its Broadband services in Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad and in some other cities. As these cities are announced and mentioned by Ptcl. But as far as Lahore is concerned there is not fully coverage for providing the facility.
For Example there are certain problems in this manner like:
1)If someone apply online. He’ll receive a confirmation call. And will said that your order will be placed within 7-days.Order application is then forward to exchange. If there is distance problem for line(range 3.5km).Then your order will be cancel. You’ll not informed.
2)So in that manner you have to apply for new connection of Fibber Optic. You will again receive a confirmation call. And will once again said your order will be placed with in 7-days.You’ll be then satisfied that your optical fibber connection will be soon placed.
3)After all these and applying from last One and Half month. No response by ptcl.At last by asking again on 1236 you will be informed that your application is in process. You’ll be satisfied again.End of second month by waiting.
4)Now we went Exchange(Samanabad) for our complain. And if you told that there is no Optical Fibber line in your area. You can’t have the facility of Broandband.
5)Oh!Its difficult to explain. What was our condition that time. Means after so much wait.No solution of problem.
Well this was our fun period of applying for Ptcl BroandBand. We think that Wahdat Colony on wahdat road in Lahore is a part of Lahore. And in Lahore Ptcl has launched the product but still not in wahdat colony. Its the main area(Government Colony)
where still optical fibber lines are not placed and the facility is not provided to colony students.Well we hope that soon facility will be provided to wahdat colony students.Kindly provide the facility as soon as possible because there are so many students in colony who are studying and hope they also get the facility.

Another problem is that the site was designed for Internet Explorer. Several sections fail to work in other browsers (notably most forms). This is a pain if you don’t use IE (or can’t use IE, because you are not using Windows).
