Top 10 Mobile Handsets Based On Mobile Advertising Metrics
AdMob, one of the largest mobile advertising company, released their Mobile Metrics Report for September of 2008. AdMob gathers and analyzes data from thousands of publishers spread over the globe. AdMob served over 5 billion ads in September 2008.
The table below shows the change in handset popularity from Sep 2007 (left) to Sep 2008 (right). A word of caution: note that this ranking is not the data of the actual phones sold. It is based only on the advertising impressions received by AdMob.
As users enjoy faster and richer mobile web experience using smarter phones from Nokia and iPhone, it helps the impressions served by the mobile ad companies such as AdMob.
Interesting facts gleaned from the report (Via Mobile Crunch post):
- The top 20 handsets worldwide account for 33.2% of impressions
- Worldwide, 64% of ad requests from smartphones come from Symbian handsets. In the US, that number drops down to 2%. In India, it shoots up to 97%.
- Worldwide, 79.5% of handsets requesting ads support polyphonic ringtones. In the US, this drops to 54%. In India and the Philippines it rockets to 85.7% and 85.2% respectively, with the UK close behind at 83.5%.
