Online SMS To Pakistan: What Features Do You Want?
Exchanging online SMS with friends & family in Pakistan is fun and useful, especially for expatriate Pakistanis. I have written about the free services available today but none of them meets my standard for reliability, quality and usability. I was wondering if there are any premium services for sending/receiving online text messages to Pakistan. What features would you expect from a paid online SMS service to/from Pakistan? Is there enough interest for such service?
What are the desirable featurs of a premium web-to-sms service? There’s a poll in the side bar where you can vote (multiple choice allowed) or leave feedback through a comment.
a. reliable sms delivery
b. unlimited sms
c. sms to a group of friends/family
d. address book import from phone/file
e. a widget to send sms (google gadget, on desktop or outlook plugin)
f. notification of incoming sms to your mailbox

I am working on this service for my library users through google calender to send overdue notices through sms. Moblink has responded and acknowledged availability for such a service. Ali thanks for letting me know about ufone. I shall try with this connection too.
Dear Shahid,
Thanks for informing us about the existing SMS business solutions and aggregators in Pakistan. I was not aware of it.
Babar
Dear Adnan
There are aggregators in Pakistan, including us (at least two). But I don’t know why most of them are not on surface. Even a few SMSCs offer local PUSH services via web interface (though there are complains about their support).
Shahid
Sidat Hyder has a similar solution (www.mobiz.pk) which has most of the features mentioned by Babar and other friends (Reliable Delivery, Unlimited SMS, Group or Individual SMS, Address Book with Import Option, Fast Delivery, Scheduled or Immediate Delivery, Unicode Support to send Urdu SMS, Templated Messages, Local and International Support) but until now we are using it for business customers only.
There are some concerns in offering such services to individuals, the most important is to ensure control over inappropriate usage. In case of businesses, there is a formal contract and the business takes the liability of what is sent and to whome is sent. But in this case, there is a hazard and the operator and authority may block the vendor right away.
This may be the reason behind why most of the current SMS portals for Pakistan are SIM based while corporate SMS services are premium gateways based (like mobiz.pk). And using SIM behind a portal — a challenging task to put that much load on the poor SIM, it affects the service quality.
If the friends may give an idea, we may think to offer something immediately.
AFAIK, there is no Pakistani SMS aggregator.
I really appreciate the effort.I have seen many websites in which some templates are there and only registered user can send sms from it.I think it would be more better if you can send some message with greetings like I have received at Eid Occassion then it will be great.
With best regards,
Muhammad Naeem
on facebook add “ufone sms buddies”. You dont need to be on ufone, just need to have a mobile phone in Pakistan for the confirmation code. Then on you can send sms to others registered on the application.
Pre-defined SMS would be nice, or better yet, ability to save your own sms template.
Hi;
For such a service you should also have a DB of text SMS having different categories, so that you can select any SMS and send it to any of your contact.
