Advertising Sarcasm at its best, or its worst?
Cross post from Basit’s blog
Recently, we have seen companies using sarcasm in hidden or obvious words causing a never ending race of ads showing up on media, especially television. This race has taken the shape of a war when it comes to telecom sector. Every telco is hitting others with the gestures, sentences, music, colors or whatever method they find appropriate. The team at Ufone has been doing its part as well but this ad, which is yet to be aired has taken it to another level. Watch for your self, they cant get better than that within 10 seconds.
At times I feel it is a little inappropriate but once it’s a war, all is fair in it. Please do post your comments.

TelecomPk.Net is a leading source of information and analysis about Pakistan Telecom industry.
O this never went on air? I made a boo boo out of myself!
For God’s sake…These ads can be made by a person doing “MATRICULATION” why reaching down such a low level? Dont the pakistanis have a better way of presenting the concept of MNP?
Mobilink and telenor used to make dancing ads in the earlier days but their marketing teams have improved a lot, look at the ads of Mobilink and telenor now, dont you see the professionalism in them? U fone, warid and zong only wants to increase the subscriber base and they are not following the correct way,Mobilink has never targetted anyone, they are pioneers in the Telecom industry and still at the top with their understanding of the market..
GROW UP U FONE,ZONG AND WARID…!!!
But this penetrated very quickly. When a ad comes out whther it on air or off medias. It is an ad. It is a commercial activity. The competitor should not take it lightly. You are not a makreting person if crap is being said about you on altertaive medias and you are taking it light just becasue it never went on TV. Treat Ad as an Ad. Its like your hair is looking at its best and shoes full of dust. TV is your hair. Medias like Youtube are your shoes. I’m astonished to hear some of the senior marketing people say that we are least bothered about Ufone ad.
All comments are against Zong and in favor of Ufone, why?
Don’t forget that 70% population of Pakistan is illetrate and they have no idea that what is actually Mobile Number Portability. The ad by Zong clerify MNP and tell people how easy to switch to other network without changing their number. Brand has its own importance but for telecom operators, major importance is only for their number of subscribers. And for Ufone, I don’t think that they’ll on-air this ad becuase they have accepted and implemented the rules of MNP(Pagal pan-) by PTA.
So! although the ad is stupid and the agency behind the making is the biggest pagal on this earth and I agree with all the anit comments above on the ad. But reading between the lines, Zong came out with a campaign that could over impact the core brands and if let loose it could break the link between what does 0300, 0333 means and how it is connected to a ‘Branding System’ of Mobilink, Ufone etc that ulitmately increments the sales of the said companies and structures their image. So as a move this was needed to cut their ‘communication rope’.
I was expecting Telenor to take the lead but Ufone moved on it. I was not expecting Mobilink to make a move, and it came on my expectations. Can someone please forward the ad to the Warid team, I guess they haven’t even seen it.
Well, Ufone has always been coming up with good, entertaining ads. Zong actually deserved that, since it started the thing. Zong should improve the standard of their ads. Plain, boring and dead ads with an almost sleeping person telling what do they offer… huh! I mean, if you are there to compete then come up to the level.
How are bad ethics shown in this ad? competitive advertising , much more direct than this goes on in every country. plus zong has also been doing it, more directly than Ufone actually.
Personally, i guess some entertainment is there in the boring commercial breaks, thanks to Ufone.
Whoever started this trend, this is not good at all. Corporates are investing millions of rupees on ad campaigns. They should be more creative and show good ethics.
Regards,
Well i think zong deserves this , as he has started this trend in industry by taunting mobilink , telenor & ufone ,, if we talk about zong add they are simple bullshitt , by seeing their adds it seems that they have noting to do with brand image .
I like this…. seen it this morning and very much something a lot of people were already doing, without the ad…
Although its gone to a new level of direct hitting, but that’s what Zong did. And for the record, MANY people just hated these annoying ads. And to begin with, I’ve detested all of Zong marketing.
Zong deserves this slap but warid is the best network
the marketing teams should work to ofer their products in a better way instead of mocking others.
unfortunately this trend was started by ufone. they need to be more creative…
