Today I came across a news item at onepakistan saying that LESCO has not authorised collection of utility bills from its consumers through easypaisa shops. On checking the easypaisa website for utility companies on board a change is found. They now only have PTCL, SSGC, SNGPL, KESC and HESCO.
Easypaisa, being the first big branchless banking solution from Telenor and Tameer Bank, launched with a zeal to bring about a paradigm shift in banking, I believe could not be coming without homework and making such a mistake that will not only harm its current offering but will also create problems for its the upcoming products and services. If this is so then what could be the reason behind this change in Partner Companies at this early stage?

A related consumer letter to Dawn.com editor,
Not that easy paisa : http://bit.ly/BGCJR
It is just a little comparison b/w the price of Utility bill payment of easy paisa & banks, to clarify the confusion of many people who thinks easy paisa is charging equal to the banks.
Utility bill payment at bank(s):
- No additional cost.
- Except Rs. 8 which is already built-in the bills.
Utility bill payment at Easy Paisa:
- Additional Rs. 10 (if bill is upto Rs. 1000)
- Additional Rs. 15 (if bill is greater than 1000 and less than Rs. 4000)
- Additional Rs. 20 (if bill amount is greater than Rs. 4000)
- The above additional charges are in addition to the already built-in Rs. 8, as bank charges)
Therefore, easy paisa is charging atleast Rs. 18 from the customer.
I hope this is clear now.
Arsalan, your point I understand and agree. I’m sure there must be some contractual discrepancy or legal divergence here that TP is trying to solve with LESCO.
easypaisa will improve, I see no doubts in that but I am still waiting an answer from telenor/tameer bank of why this change?
Ali, your answer is in your question. Being branchless they are charging equal to banks and not more.
Just to add that since Mobilink had no interest in the research I do so I floated that research to their competitors so they act upon Genie’s strengths and compete accordingly with Mobilink. EP will improve eventually, not to worry.
why they change????? agree that its branchless but they are charging equal to banks
I already analyzed the change and ARPU based roll two weeks back and had already put a percent of the finding on my blog as well. I did a comparison with Genie to see two main things: 1. Trust and 2. ARPU. Trust makes you come back for repeat usage (in a remote-control service where system is not transparent in front of the consumer e.g. third party involvement) and ARPU is what you want at the end of the day. Mobilink Genie by far and so far is slightly higher on both ends.
