Key Performance Indicators for Fixed Broadband Services in Pakistan
PTA has recently published a long overdue paper outlining the key performance indicators (KPIs) for fixed broadband services in Pakistan. The objective of defining these indicators, per PTA paper, is to create transparent, quantifiable and measurable standard service parameters for broadband which the service provider is entailed to provide and the user has a right to expect.
Note that per the Broadband Policy of 2004, broadband in Pakistan is referred to as “always on” services with a data rate greater than 128Kbps. Here are the 10 KPIs. Expect to see a number of these to be measured in 2010. Get the full pdf of the PTA document here. There’s a glossary of broadband terms in the document.
1. Network availability
2. Link Rate
3. Availability
4. Bandwidth
5. Round Trip Time
6. Jitter
7. Packet Loss
8. Customer Service
9. Billing Complaints
10. Service Provisioning Complaints

PTA is now really getting annoying, either change the name called PTA or revert the branding to government style like it was before or ban the damn word. This has crossed the sickness extent please.
It seems to be a good starting point by PTA.. Let’s see when actually different providers will be measured according to these KPI’s
