Call Block Services – For All, Other Than Mobilink Subscribers

We did a round up of call block services last year, at that time we had Warid and Mobilink not offering such a service.

Since last month, Warid offers its 9211 service for protection against obnoxious calls while the market leader Mobilink still lacks in providing such a service for their subscribers.

The 9211 service from Warid allows subscribers to block unlimited on-net, off-net and international numbers.

Key Features:

  • You can create a block list for the obnoxious caller(s) that will be maintained at our end which may contain unlimited on-net, off-net and international number(s).
  • Once subscribed to the service the obnoxious caller(s) will be assigned a default announcement.
  • You can also choose from a wide range of pre-recorded announcements against a specific caller(s).
  • Express yourself in your own style as Warid also provides you with the option of assigning self recorded announcements (subject to approval) against the obnoxious caller’s number(s).
  • You can also subscribe to the SMS notification service through which you have an option to be alerted whenever the obnoxious caller tries to call you.
  • The service is available for both postpaid and prepaid subscribers

How to register, add and remove numbers from the block list:

The registration for “Warid Call Block 9211” service can be done by dialing 9211 or via SMS. The details for the same are provided below:

Dial IVR 9211 and follow the instructions to subscribe the service

Type “ Sub ” in the SMS option and send it to 9211

Monthly subscription charges of Rs. 19+Tax shall be applicable for both prepaid and postpaid users.

Charges of Rs. 2+tax/minute shall be applicable.

  • In order to add a number to your block list; send “block”<0321xxxxxxx> in a SMS to 420.

Charges of Rs. 2+tax per SMS shall be applicable.

  • In order to remove a number from your block list; send “unblock”<0321xxxxxxx> in a SMS to 420.

Charges of Rs. 2+tax per SMS shall be applicable.

Other operators Telenor, Ufone and Zong also have these services for their subscribers.

I am one again directed to this page when searching for a Mobilink Jazz Call Screening or Call Blocking service which hasn’t been announced as yet.

It seems like Mobilink doesnt realise that its an important feature for a certain small percentage of its customers, which is why they are forced to move to another network like Zong which has been the leader in offering call blocking service.

If its revenue that Mobilink is concerned about I dont think it would drastically affect their revenue-per-call or some other indicator as a blocked call would still incurr the same amount from the user. Also they could penalise the caller with a higher call if its on the call receiver’s block list.

I think Mobilink would do a tremendous service to its customers if it allows call screening so that some customer can get rid of rude and annoying callers.

Other than that, it would be in public interest for PTA to mandate that call screening service should be offered by all service providers in Pakistan.

I shifted from Warid to Zong just because of Call Blocking service offered by Zong. I must say that Zong has really improved its services now and one of the main features worth the problem with MNP is its call blocking service.

It’s easy to use and quite effective in blocking all kinds of numbers including the SMS from PTCL numbers which it’s web eCare option doesn’t enable

I wonder why Mobilink isn’t starting this service since the revenue from the crank caller still goes to Mobilink’s coffers. Are they encouraging crank calling because of their numeric clout of 35million subscribers.

Shouldn’t the PTA or Competition Commission enforce a certain limited set of features available to the public?

It probably goes against the grain of the marketing departments which encourage All Night Packages and crank calls to boost revenue.

Ideally you should install Advanced Caller Blocker software for Symbian and or if you have Android phone like Ideos install a free Call Filtering software to block all SMSes and Calls from unknown numbers or pranksters!!

Mobilink Is Not Offering Basic Valuable Services To It’s Customers, Which All Other Mobile Operators Are Offering. Like :-

    1) = Call / SMS Block Service

    2) = Web Based Customer Interaction Services

( Like Ufone, Telenor, Warid, Zong Customers Can Update Their Profile, Subscribe / Unsubscribe To Various Value Added Services, Can Check Call Records Through Web )

    3) = Conference Call ( Not For Prepaid Customers )

Mobilink is working on many ways to trap the traffic but Really It doesn’t offer the call block service. Its very necessary. And this may create hinderence in getting the consumers.

    • Arsalan Mir says:

It will at a time. The other point is that I write about it after almost a year, warid is here with it while mobilink still is not.
Wonder if they are working on it? If they are what is taking so long?
