Ufone & Mobilink take CSR initiatives

The importance of Corporate Social Responsibility has been recognized by commercial organizations all over the world for quite some time, but unfortunately, this has not been the case in Pakistan as the companies fulfilling their responsibilities completely are few & far between.

Its a breath of fresh air that Ufone & Mobilink have recognized the importance of CSR as giving back something to the community is a must for successful organizations in the modern world. Both the companies have taken a great step forward in the hyper competitive market of today. Mobilink foundation is aiding construction of model homes for flood victims.

Mobilink’s Director Public Relations and CSR, Omar Manzur said:

“Our aim is to ensure that these new homes will prove to be a secure and comfortable residence for the deserving families. The structural designs of these homes follow the guidelines of ‘Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA)’ and the beneficiaries were selected on the basis of vulnerability after conducting a thorough field study under the supervision of the local DCOs. Giving back to the community is a core value at Mobilink, with a commitment to continue making concerted efforts to provide relief to the underprivileged”.

Ufone has joined hands with the Kidney Center, Karachi & has donated a sum of Rs. 5 million for expansion of state of the art kidney related medical facilities at the center.

The expansion at The Kidney Centre, Karachi comes in lieu of the fact that there is an alarming increase of End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patients who visit the Kidney Center every day and the available dialysis facility was being strained. The existing dialysis facility will be moved to the new floor with 45 additional machines, raising the number to 67, along with allied equipment and professional services. This expansion will engage more than 500 patients and 83,884 dialysis sessions per year.

The intiatives taken by Ufone & Mobilink are commendable as & we hope that Mobile Service Providers will be committing motre resources to give something back to the community.

Well said Munib, by taking small initiatives a company can gradually move towards broader prospects. F’course it wouldnt hurt to praise them for the good initiatives they have taken for the betterment of our nation

    Spot on!

If PAK corporate sector is really serious about doing something +ve for country, they will have to raise above and go beyond these “media-oriented” initiatives. It would be of greater importance and effect if PAK telecom companies provide free phone booths in interior and even allow people make free EMERGENCY calls as during time of crisis communication is of great importance. People could register on their CNIC basis and let the NGOz and donors also avail free calls facility. This could have been more practically beneficial then donating money and making houses. The number of people affected by floods and disasters is so much that its impossible to help everyone. While its good to donate money, more needs to be done on REAL PRACTICAL domains.
