Microsoft Reimagines Windows, Releases Windows 8 Developer Preview






Microsoft has shown off a detailed preview of Windows 8 at its developer-focused BUILD conference. Enthusiasts and developers have been equally eager to see first glimpses of the new OS by Microsoft which promises to be universal platform for touch-based devices like tablets and PCs/ laptops.

“We reimagined Windows,” said Steven Sinofsky, president of the Windows and Windows Live Division at Microsoft, in his keynote address to the thousands of developers in attendance. “From the chipset to the user experience, Windows 8 brings a new range of capabilities without compromise”.

Salient features of Windows 8 are:

  • Brand new Metro UI
  • Full support for touch-based devices
  • Reduced memory footprint
  • Support for ARM based chipsets
  • Lesser battery consumption
  • Compatible with devices and programs used on Windows 7
