Media reports of a probable suspension of mobile phone services on Eid Day were circulating on TV channels since afternoon. These reports are now confirmed by Ministry of Interior citing security issues and a proactive measure to avoid any unwanted incident.

The services may be suspended in major cities of Punjab and Sindh including Multan, Lahore and Karachi which are at high risk of a possible terrorist activity.

During a high level meeting Interior Malik and officials from the PTA decided that mobile services may be suspended for a few hours in certain areas to tackle the threats.

Malik said mobile services may be suspended in these areas during Eid prayers and for up to 2.5 hours in the evening due to the threats.
