Plan 9 Launch Event
Plan 9: Tech Incubator by Punjab Information Technology Board was launched today at Arfa Software Technology Park, Lahore. All of the Plan 9 Board of Directors — Dr.Umar Saif, Jahan Ara, Badar Khushnood, Zafar Khan, Zia Imran, Khurram Zafar and Babar Ahmed were there.
Dr.Umar Saif explained the concept of Plan 9 to audience & what is PITB trying to do for the Pakistan I.T. industry. He said that Plan 9 was an tech incubator program for startups, students or others who have a brilliant idea but do not have the resources to implement it. They could submit there ideas to Plan 9 where a pool of judges, top people from I.T. industry, would judge there ideas & select 5 of them which would be given an office space in Software Technology Park, equipment & financial support for the first 6 months.In these 6 months they would be assigned Mentors, top people from I.T. industry, who would be guiding them. They would also have a chance to go to the Silicon Valley & be mentored by best people from the I.T. industry of USA.
After that came Jehan Ara, President of the Pakistan Software Houses Association for IT & ITES (P@SHA), the official launchpad partner of Plan 9, she explained why P@SHA was helping PITB in Plan 9. She said that this was a very good initiative from PITB which would bring up a lot of I.T. talent from the country, so P@SHA amoung others was very excited about the Plan 9 launch.
After that Babar Ahmed came & told success stories of different Pakistani people who became successful through or without programs like Plan 9. After that a question & answer session was held & the major concern of audience had been the privacy of the ideas they would pitch at Plan 9 and if the process of selection would be totally transparent.
The event was followed by high-tea which provided a great networking opportunity for participants to exchange ideas.
