Facebook sued by the dead over Like button

Companies get sued all the time, but why do we care? Because being sued by a dead man is something special. Facebook is being sued by  Joannes Jozef Everardus van Der Meer who was a Dutch programmer but apparently he passed away in  2004 when Facebook was just starting to emerge, so why does he care now?
