PTA Directs Telcos to Discontinue SMS and Call Packages

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has issued a letter to cellular operators asking them to forthwith stop SMS and Call packages being offered under different names. The letter dated august 29, 2013 has been issued by Mr. Muhammad Talib Dogar (DG Operations) in continuation with PTA Directive dated November 14, 2012 with the subject “Packages offered by CMTOs contrary to moral values of the society”.

The letter reads:

“All cellular mobile operators are hereby once again directed to immediately stop all kind of chat packages (Voice and SMS) irrespective of time of the day and submit compliance by 2 September, 2013”

Moral values of a society must be protected. But issuing such directive can have multi-pronged consequences as a lot of citizens including businessmen and households now rely solely on their cell phones for communication due to various inherent limitation of landline phones. Such persons will be hit hard by this directive.

On the other hand, it is to be noted that cellular companies did not follow the directive at the first instance. So these companies may file a petition against this directive or negotiate collectively with PTA in order to protect their revenue.

Aray bahio according to my information this decision has been imposed by PTA itself,as it is an independent authority , Government/ any ministry no consent has been taken by the Federal Govt. in this regard according to sources.

PTA kay Directives ka GOVT kay sath koi relation nee hay,I think Cabinet Division will intervene as PTA is under the Cabinet Division on issuing such bull shit Directives.
