Iram Bukhari Glorifies Her Father as Inspiration at Startup Grind
Startup Grind is the largest independent startup community, actively educating, inspiring, and connecting more than 2,000,000 entrepreneurs in over 600 chapters. Startup Grind recently organized a session on empowering women at Colabs.
The special guest at the session was Secretary Women Development Department Government of Punjab, Irum Bukhari, who on the occasion stated that the department had taken landmark initiatives for economic empowerment of women in Pakistan.
Moderated by Chapter Director of Startup Grind Lahore, Iftikhar Hussain session with Irum Bukhari captivated the audience.
Speaking on the occasion, Irum Bukhari said: “My journey of becoming a bureaucrat goes to my father because he was the one from whom I took inspiration. I have served in the Government departments for the past 27 years and have overseen several amendments and policies that elevated the status of women in Pakistan.”
She further added: “In 2014 within one day, 66 laws were amended by government efforts. We introduced laws to have at least 33% of female representation in any decision making committee. A daycare fund was introduced in 2013, wherein grants are issued to companies in order to establish daycare centers in both public and private sector companies.”
Irum concluded the session saying: “I am currently working on an application to help females locate government regulated all-female hostels within close proximity.Women Development Department is working on empowering women financially in the rural areas with the help of technology and you can see its proceedings in the coming year.”
Irum Bukhari is credited with having officially made a separate department for Women Development and also for making two special institutions. To name a few of her accomplishments, Irum has constantly strived to help ease the life of women to her utmost best.
With her influence and determination, Irum Bukhari helped pass a law against harassment of women in the workplace. In 2014, she made an amendment which made it a criminal offence for anyone trying to eliminate a woman’s right to divorce in her Nikkah Nama. An amendment in the inheritance laws for women was also introduced by her.
