Djuice Promotes Local Soccer Talent, Sponsors RedBull StreetStyle

Easypaisa – CNN Review

story.paisaEasypaisa’s success has not only being lauded nationally but like in the cross-post from the mmublog.org it is also being appreciated internationally. It is now being reviewed on CCN Edition along with other mobile banking initiatives. It mentions that EasyPaisa is the first venture in Pakistan to do this; 89 percent of Pakistan population is unbanked. It also indicates about the Easy Paisa plans to launch a Mobile Account service that features savings and withdrawals in near future.

Mobile Phone Software Monetisation Models

As the number of mobile applications increase its important for developers to understand the shifts in the mobile app development ecosystem. They need to know the best ways to capture value and to make money. Recently I came across a good presentation by VisionMobile called Mobile Mega Trends 2010, which among other things talks about the monetisation models and revenues. The first diagram from VisionMobile shows the 4 quadrants (device/cloud and pre/post-sales) which are important. The second diagram talks about the value and revenues in each quadrant. One of the key point is the value after sales which can come from inventory leasing, analytics, service distribution and service management.

Easypaisa in its aim to target the unbanked population of Pakistan has come up with TVCs/Ads in regional languages. Earlier was this one in Sindhi, showing a son doing a domestic remittance from city and his mom receiving it instantly at hometown.

Ab Mera Number Hai – Telenor India Launches

Telenor Group’s Indian mobile operation, Uninor, today announced the launch of its mobile services in seven Indian telecom circles, making it the largest single day launch in the telecom history. On the first day of service Uninor will cover a footprint of close to 600 million people. Its interesting to note the organizational mode and the marketing strategy.

Marketing Strategy
Uninor will leverage from Telenor Group’s established marketing and design framework. As in several other markets where the Telenor Group is present, the brand follows Telenor’s brand strategy, combining the global position of the Telenor Group with a distinct local identity. Uninor’s tagline is “Ab mera number hai” or “My time is now”, set to target the young and ambitious individuals.

Organizational Model

Uninor has established an organizational model, utilizing the unique extend of infrastructure sharing and large degree of outsourcing services available in India. With extensive use of outsourcing, Uninor has created a fast, flexible and efficient model for future growth. Jon Fredrik Baksaas said:

The Indian organizational model represents a new and innovative approach to setting up a light and cost-efficient telecom operation. I believe that Uninor’s organizational approach will make them faster and more agile than a traditional mobile operator.

The Uninor launch also represents the largest ever distribution at launch by any operator in India. Counterfeit Software At Wateen Kiosks

I would have really appreciated Wateen’s attempt to put on the complimentary kiosks for travelers and providing them services. But as I got over with my work and closed the browser, I saw something that can not be expected from a recognized broadband company while promoting their brand.

The story has been the same for many years. The surge in network activity at Eid time is accompanied by service issues. And recently some companies have withdraw certain popular packages, SMS in particular. My thinking is that if a company can’t offer these packages during the peak times, then don’t bother offering it at all. Otherwise it sounds like switch and bait and hurts the brand reputation. Warid Telecom To Provide Cellular Services to Punjab University
