In the era where communication panorama is changing fast and furious and have made distances ever shorter this news about the Indian authorities alerting mobile subscribers to avoid calling Pakistan comes as a distress. The Daily Mail gives out the details.

At a time when revolution in telecom is bringing the world together by providing instant communication access over long distances, Indian Government has launched an SMS (Short Massages Service) campaign to discourage its population from making calls to Pakistan.

The information collected by The Daily Mail indicate that since Jan 21, 2010 an SMS is being received on the mobile phones to exercise extra care while calling anyone in Pakistan. Whenever a call is made to Pakistan, the caller receives an SMS; “You just made a call to ISD Code 0092 (Pakistan’s international dialing code). We urge you to exercise caution while calling unknown number and sharing personal details as it can be misused”.

Launching of an anti Pakistan campaign based on SMS technology is the latest ploy employed by the Indian intelligence agency RAW’s spin-doctors to vitiate the public mindset.

“With a massive anti Pakistan propaganda campaign on print and electronic media in full swing, harnessing the sweep of cell phone technology will only serve to further pollute the Indian masses’ mind; effectively working against normalizing relations with Pakistan”, observed Rajesh Mishra, a local professor, attached with a think tank for regional peace.

The SMS says that the caller on his will has made call to Pakistan, which normally many families across borders make and have been making since long. Is this to discourage such families?

Why specifically calling Pakistan has been cautioned as calling unknown number? If it was about to alert customers of sharing personal or as a matter of fact any detail on unknown number for security reasons the message could have been sent after all international calls made.

By trying to impose barrier on communications, I doubt that Aman Ki Asha (joint effort of Jang Group and The Times of India) will fail.

This certification will ensure secure and reliable mobile transactions through Tameer Microfinance Bank and Telenor Pakistan’s easypaisa.

Chief Technology Officer, Telenor Pakistan Khalid Shehzad while talking about the certification said, “By having achieved this certification for easypaisa services, we have tried to offer to our external customers a secure, reliable and organized information security system that will give them the confidence to conduct their financial transactions without any hesitation.”

ISO 27001:2005 is an international code of practice for Information Security Management Systems that was established by the British Standard Institution in 2005. ISO 27001 represents the only auditable international standard to define the requirements for an Information Security Management System (ISMS). The certification is awarded only if the Information Security Management System ensures a defined security policy, a defined scope of ISMS, has conducted a thorough risk assessment and managed all identified risks. In addition, the certification directly benefits the customer by ensuring information security, transaction security and enhanced process efficiency.

The State Bank of Pakistan has reported a decline or 34.4% in foreign investments during July-January period as compared to same period last year.

Dawn reports that fall  is observed in telecom, financial, cement, oil and gas exploration and automobile sectors.

Excerpt below gives detail about the fall in telecommunication sector which is considered most attractive for investments.

The details provided by the State Bank show that massive fall in investment was noted in the telecommunications sector which received just $209 million during those seven months against $713 million, a decline of 70 per cent.

Under this head, information technology also suffered heavily as it faced disinvestment of $96 million compared to a net investment of $53.3 million during seven months of last year.

The data center will provide enterprises with an application processing environment with connectivity to the fully redundant self healing optical fiber network backbone.
