Telenor djuice have recently launched a new Facebook based application called Fanster. Fanster is an application that it is giving incentives for different social tasks such as Updating a Status, Posting Images, Inviting Friends to Join Fanster & etc into a virtual currency which can be later used to cash out rewards such as 15MB Mobile Internet, Brand Merchandise or djuice One Touch Phone.

Recently, an email was sent out to bloggers which had the following invitation to try out djuice Fanster application.

I almost started using the application right after I received the invitation for djuice and really liked the application at first.

It’s a fun way of marketing there your users do the promotional stuff and in the end are rewarded by djuice for all the help but one thing that I really disliked was that in the rewards section, even though it says you could get a djuice One Touch Phone but when you scroll over to it, it says 0 (zero) Items Remaining. This could only happen if some other users already cashed there coins for a this reward but as the amount of Coins needed is pretty high and no one in the leader board has yet those many coins hence this means that they never did plan to give out the djuice One Touch Phone which is pretty low act in marketing.

Rest it is a nice effort & something I have seen for the first time among Pakistani brands for marketing.

Update:

Telenor contacted us to give an explanation about the absence of One Touch Phone from the list of prizes. It seems the phone has already been won by someone. Here is the mail by telenor:

“Thank you for writing about our app Fanster on your blog. It is opinions and feedback of people like yourself that help us provide you better services.

In your post you mentioned there being no one touch phone in the inventory on the app, the reason for that is simple as a player from Sukkur, Mr. Tauqeer has already won the phone, and he is also being shown in the leaderboard.

If you have any further feedback or suggestions please feel to share it with us anytime.

Thank you once again and Eid mubarik.”

Speaking about the anthem, Usman Javed, Director Marketing, Telenor Pakistan said: “Music is something that connects young people everywhere; Shehzad Roy is Pakistan’s youth icon who is known for his social music, which talks about empowerment and social change. So the djuice team asked Shehzad to create a song which young people could identify with. “

“As a result, on the occasion of 14th August this year djuice and Shehzad Roy have made a song about the possibilities that can be turned into reality by the young people of Pakistan but only if they stand up to those issues that hinder their progress, and work towards a better future,” said Usman.

Now as Telecomistan first uncovers, latest to the list is again Telenor with their Djuice’s Khamoshi Ka Boycott Launch Message for Pakistan. Take a look at the video from the Djuice’s official YouTube channel.

Wondering what is ripped off in this message. Watch it again from start till to 0.30s. Notice the keera (insect) and the audio.

Now take a look at this TVC below:

Yes this one is by Volkswagens for its superbowl xlv (aka the black beetle). Just look at the audacity of the uncreative creatives of the Telenor’s video. I would second Ammar here, it is indeed a shocking revelation, it is not just a copy – it is an absolute rip-off. A total cut and paste job.

That’s not all, can you imagine the time and effort put in to the Volkswagen advert? The concept, set and animations.

Here, have a look at this 3 mins video of the making of a brilliant 30 second commercial. An absolute original creative job.

So what should we boycott in Pakistan; booti, parchi or ripping off?

PS. Title in English: Boycott the silence, Boycott the rip-offs

Update:

The description of the video on Djuice’s official You Tube channel has been updated following this post. The new line just added gives credits to the beetle video:

Credits: VW Beetle XLV Superbowl ad

The fun to be young brand has followed the global revolutionary trend and now says no to silence with their new tag-line “Khamoshi Ka Boycott” (Boycott of Silence).

Telenor Pakistan has announced its new philosophy towards its youth brand ‘djuice’ to reaffirm its commitment to the young people of Pakistan. The company announced the brand’s new philosophy through an unveiling event in Karachi today. Shahzad Roy represented djuice as Brand Ambassador. The event was attended by university students and representatives of the Youth Parliament.

The new philosophy, which empowers young people to speak out and take action against social injustices, comes with the tagline ‘Khamoshi ka Boycott’. The event comprised the unveiling of the new identity of the brand and a discussion among the audience on speaking out about the social problems they see in their everyday lives.

Speaking on the occasion Chief Marketing Officer Telenor Pakistan Aamir Ibrahim said: “More than half of Pakistan’s population consists of youth, who are talented, intelligent and aware of their surroundings. Now all the youth need is direction, a means to speak out and raise their voice against social injustices. Through djuice’s ‘Khamoshi Ka Boycott’, we aim to do just that.”

Shahzad Roy and Mahira Khan have been named as djuice Brand Ambassadors.
