Late Night Offers Under the Gun Once Again!

While not for the first time, voice is yet again being raised against the Late Night Offer packages on mobile phones. This time the voice looks more serious as it comes from the Senate Standing Committee. As per news reports PTA is working on the regulation to discourage the LNO packages from mobile operators as they are destroying the youth.

Senate’s Standing Committee on Cabinet Division showed its resentment over delay in the sale of 3G licenses and misappropriation in the universal services fund.

The committee meeting was held at parliament house under its chairperson Senator Kalsum Parveen on Thursday. The committee instructed Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) to finish late night call packages including obnoxious SMS. The committee also directed PTA that all calls on emergency and enquiry numbers should be made free of cost.

Earlier, we had similar call from Punjab Assembly when they unanimously passed a resolution banning late night offers/packages by mobile phone operators.

Warid has introduces two new SMS bundles, Daily & Weekly SMS Bundle. Daily SMS bundle gives you 500 SMS/day at the cost of Rs.3.5+tax per day, to activate send “DS” to 3333. Weekly SMS bundle gives you 1000 SMS/week at the cost of Rs.6.99+tax per week, to activate send “WS” to 3333.

Advance Balance

Warid Advance Balance offers balance to users who don’t have enough balance to use basic services such as calls or messages. Just write “AB” and send it to 7676 to avail the offer, but amazingly any blank sms or sms with anyother text sent to 7676 would also avail the offer. Subscribers will be charged a fee of Rs.2+tax for using this service. Although it seems that the amount of Advance Balance seems not to be mentioned anywhere.

Power Pack

The new Waird Power Pack offers 5mins of Calls (Warid to Warid), 100 SMS (all networks) and 5MB of GPRS data daily at the cost of just Rs.4.99+tax. To activate Power Pack, write “P” and send it to 7777. Charges of Rs.1+tax will be charged for any SMS sent to 7777.

Warid Brings Karachi Offer

Warid has hit with its Karachi Offer ‘Bol Utha Karachi’ in which people in Karachi can make unlimited calls to all Warid numbers from 12am till 12pm with the daily rental of only Rs. 3.99+t.

The offer is open for subscription of both existing and new Karachi based subscribers by sending “KHI” in SMS to 4337. SMS will be charged as per the package plan.

This limited time offer is for prepaid subscribers only and will automatically be renewed daily at midnight and customer will be charged on-net and off-net call as per package plan from 12pm till 12am.

In case of low balance, Karachi offer will be deactivated and it has to be subscribed again.

Any customer who subscribes to the offer from outside Karachi would be charged 3.99+ tax but will not be able to avail free calls.

Ufone has introduced UMonitor, a service which will allow both its prepaid and postpaid customers to keep a track of their calls.

Ufone UMonitor will allow customers to monitor calls on three numbers and make a list of specific numbers to keep a check on their incoming and outgoing calls.

Akbar Khan, Chief Marketing Officer at Ufone said that it was a great achievement for Ufone to develop UMonitor for its valued customers. He stressed that the Pakistani telecom market is an example of rapid progression and sustenance. He proclaimed that at Ufone it was understood that different businesses have different service and package requirements. It is all about identifying and introducing an offer which fills the gap and satisfies the requirements of our valued customers.

How to Subscribe

Dial 6363 (Rs. 0.1 + Tax per minute) to subscribe

Note

You will be given the option to add up to three phone numbers of your choice (The monitored number will have the option to accept or decline being added to the monitored list)
The primary number will be able to monitor each number separately by sending command SMS to 6464 free of cost
Each monitored number’s log will be maintained separately

Charges

Primary no. (prepaid) will be charged: Rs. 5 + Tax per week

The price war yet again takes the call rates down. In response to Telenor’s 49 paisa/30 sec and Mobilink Jazz’s 45 paisa/30 sec, Ufone brings their bachat offer with call rate of 30 paisa/ 20 sec to any network in Pakistan.

The website says the following about the offer:

It is interesting to see that the website also justifies their claim of announcing this package as the cheapest in the history of Pakistan. The justification is as follows:

Call rates compared on 3rd Dec 2010, with offers / packages launched by other operators with 20 second charging pulse mentioned on their respective websites. This comparison excludes location based, special time in a day, friends and family or daily or monthly charges / rates.

This post shall summarize Eid Offers coming from the telecom operators on this Meaty Eid. The offers is general are in the shape of awarding free minutes/free balance or cash prizes.

Starting with market leader Mobilink Jazz. They are offering its subscribers a treat of free minutes and cash prizes.

Jazz customers who will use their SIM between Nov 16 and Nov 19 and send SMS on short code 550 will have the chance to become winners:

300,000 prizes of 75 Onnet minutes paid in 2 installments (50 minutes & 25 minutes in 1st and 2nd installment respectively)
100 customers will be given cash prize of Rs. 100,000 each

The validity of free minutes is announced of 3 days while the Short code 550 will be charged at Rs. 0.50/SMS. The date of the lucky draw for both free minutes and cash prizes will be communicated later (as notified on their webpage).

Ufone’s Eid offer is also an interesting one as it is not only for pre-paid but for post paid also. They are offering Free Calls with out daily charges for 3 whole days on the 4th, 5th and 6th day of Eid (i.e. 20-22 Nov). Mobilink Jazz has come up with another limited time reactivation offer. This time for those who have not used your Jazz connection since the 10th of February 2010.

In this offer after putting the Jazz SIM back and sending an SMS to 550, customer gets 50 free minutes. Everyone who has received the 50 free minutes can also get 300 more free minutes by recharging in each of the next three months.
