Although Samsung-Google relationship is perfectly fine, still Samsung is looking forward to put its efforts into developing its own Tizen OS. Two devices Samsung GT-I8800 (Melius) and GT-I8805 (Redwood) were rumored to be underdevelopment. Melius was thought to be an Android device while Redwood was supposed to be running Tizen OS. Recently, Tizen Greek Community has released a few images of the Samsung Redwood (GT-18800). As it turns out that it is the one codenamed Redwood, this makes us wonder if GT-18805 is maybe another variant of GT-18800 with LTE or maybe there is some significant difference.

These new leaked images of the Tizen OS show us that how would voice control work on the Samsung Redwood. Android is the Top Smartphone OS, Apple iOS follows it while Windows Phone is making its position firm as the third best smartphone OS. It would be pretty interesting to see how Samsung plans to makes its way to the Top 3. Many other Linux based OS are also due to launch later this year like Ubuntu for Smartphones.

The Galaxy S4 Active has been in rumors for some time now. Back in April, we started to hear about the Galaxy S4 Active as a waterproof version of the Samsung Galaxy S4. Before today we had no solid images or news on the hardware specs of the Galaxy S4 Active. Now that we have a few images of the Galaxy S4 Active and it’s hardware details leaking out, we can hardly say if its anything better.

Galaxy S4 Active does have a few design changes such as the addition of the new colored body part but the basic design is same as the Galaxy S4. Also we do have new physical button at bottom of the device. As far as hardware is concerned, the device has the same Quad Core Snapdragon 600 processor and the 1080p display. From what we see, the only thing downgraded on the S4 Active is the 8MP camera instead of 16MP. You can read more in the leaked image below:

It looks like the days of Samsung surpassing Apple in smartphone sale are numbered. The jury in the US court which was hearing the Apple vs Samsung patents case has given its verdict. Apple has claimed the victory with the statement that “stealing isn’t right” while Samsung has dubbed it as “a loss for the American consumer“.

The jury has decided that Samsung infringed Apple’s patents and that too, knowingly. The jury, in the verdict has stated that top executives at Samsung knew about the patents infringement and has also declared that they willfully continued the patent violation to develop their own products. Samsung Galaxy Tab, however, has not infringed Apple’s patents concerning the iPad’s design.

Apple has claimed a figure of US$ 2.5 billion as damages but the jury has decided a final figure of just over $1 billion as damages, the exact figure is US $1,049,343,540. Samsung will be further saddened by the fact that jury found that Apple did not infringe its patents in iPhone 3G and 3GS and hence awarded no damages resulting in a clear victory for Apple and its legal team.

Samsung has indicated that it will be applying for an immediate injunction against the decision and will further go for an appeal. So the drama hasn’t ended yet and there could be more twists and turns in this saga.

Following statements were released by the two tech giants:

Samsung

Today’s verdict should not be viewed as a win for Apple, but as a loss for the American consumer. It will lead to fewer choices, less innovation, and potentially higher prices. It is unfortunate that patent law can be manipulated to give one company a monopoly over rectangles with rounded corners, or technology that is being improved every day by Samsung and other companies. Consumers have the right to choices, and they know what they are buying when they purchase Samsung products. This is not the final word in this case or in battles being waged in courts and tribunals around the world, some of which have already rejected many of Apple’s claims. Samsung will continue to innovate and offer choices for the consumer

Apple

We are grateful to the jury for their service and for investing the time to listen to our story and we were thrilled to be able to finally tell it. The mountain of evidence presented during the trail showed that Samsung’s copying went far deeper than even we knew. The lawsuits between Apple and Samsung were about much more than patents or money. They were about values. At Apple, we value originality and innovation and pour our lives into making the best products on earth. We make these products to delight our customers, not for our competitors to flagrantly copy. We applaud the court for finding Samsung’s behavior willful and for sending a loud and clear message that stealing isn’t right.

According to the latest figures from IDC, Android and iOS cemented there lead in Q2 of 2012 by accounting for 85% of shipments in this quarter. As far as Blackberry and Symbian OS are concerned, its been a miserable quarter for them because there shares fell by more than 5%. On the other hand Windows Phone 7 gained about 115% gain in its market share which is tremendous but it only holds 3.5% of the total market share which is not good enough so Microsoft needs to work hard with Windws Phone 8 to gain grounds in the Smartphone market.

Here is a chart that shows the Worldwide Smartphone OS Market Shares Q2 2011 to Q2 2012.
