The services may be suspended in major cities of Punjab and Sindh including Multan, Lahore and Karachi which are at high risk of a possible terrorist activity.

During a high level meeting Interior Malik and officials from the PTA decided that mobile services may be suspended for a few hours in certain areas to tackle the threats.

Malik said mobile services may be suspended in these areas during Eid prayers and for up to 2.5 hours in the evening due to the threats.

Speaking to the media late evening on Sunday, Interior Minister Rehman Malik have said that services will resume after 10:00 am on Monday. He added that the this step had been taken to prevent terrorist attacks as terrorists now tend to use IED devices controlled by mobile phones to detonate explosive devices.

The selected players received extensive training which focussed on various aspects of their game while educating the young players about technical and tactical details which they were not aware of. Two Manchester United trainers were dedicated to train the 32 Pakistani youngsters and were impressed by the skill and commitment shown by the starlets. They tried their best to focus on individual players to help the overcome their weaknesses and consequently improve their game.

We appreciate the effort by Zong but in our opinion a one-week training session will not be instrumental in growth and development of the kids. They will remember this as and excursion trip and a dream come true. If Zong really wants to contribute to the cause of promoting football in Pakistan it shall focus on improving infrastructure and start sponsoring local tournaments and then send handpicked players abroad for graduating from Manchester United Soccer School in order to ensure that talented players live up to their potential.

Another point worth noting is the absence of judgement criteria and the judges in the rules pertaining to this competition. Moreover, the last point in the rules states that:

The information you provide will only be used by and for Zong

Couple it with another point in the rules

Also send your contact number, house address and city name in the email

The issue arising from these two statements is that privacy of contestants’ data cannot be assured as it is being sent to an email id which is on a free email service instead of a corporate Zong Email.

Moreover, the Zong landing image for this contest (inserted above) asks participants to send pics on Zong page or email, so even if a contestant uploads a pic on the page it may land in wrong hands.

Conclusion

Think twice before giving away your snaps and sensitive credentials for the small gifts on offer.

Such negligence on the page of a corporate company is unheard off, here are some suggestions for Zong’s marketing team to ponder on:

1. Rules regarding any competition should be carefully drafted
2. Corporate email id (xxx@zong.com.pk) should be used to ensure credibility
3. Only the winning contestants should have been asked to disclose such their credential details for delivery of prizes
4. Judging criteria and judges should be made clear

A SIM was booked on the Zong be the ONE FB app and picked from Zong Customer Service Center in Lahore, I was told that all the information was in the booklet provided with the SIM and if I needed further information I may call to Zong helpline. I was impressed with the details of Follow the star but couldn’t find any instruction to activate the service.

I went to Zong Manchester United site but couldn’t find something helpful about follow the star.

All I got in the MU SIM content page was a snap of Ferdinand, Evra and Rooney on left side of a list of special content provided by the special SIM, but there was no information regarding activation of follow the star.

A call to helpline was picked after around 5 minutes of pointless music and when asked about the service I was made to wait twice and instead of getting the information my call was dropped by the representative, it was pretty evident that he was unaware of this service as he asked from someone named Farooq about it. The only information given by the CSR was that when SIM is activated I should get a text message with a list of players to choose from but I had already activated the SIM some days ago but did not receive any such message, hence the operator was confused and dropped the call.

Zong social media team is doing a great job in promoting Zong – Manchester United partnership, but Zong should focus on improving its services and do the home work before launching such offers.
